Frequently Asked Questions

When is it appropriate to mark the grave?
Generally this is a family decision as well as a financial decision.  However, we find many people feel a deep sense of gratification and closure upon ordering a memorial for a loved one.  A memorial is a tribute to a life.

What materials are markers made of?
Most markers are made of one or two materials; either granite or bronze.  Both materials are of the highest quality and the most appropriate material for their enduring qualities. Though marble is used, it is not as durable.

What determines the cost of a marker?
The cost of the marker or monument is determined primarily on the size, shape and color of the granite.  At Lloyd Brothers Walker Monuments, many custom designs and lettering styles are included in the cost.

Why does the color make a difference in price?
Although the color is usually no indication of the quality of the stone, it is an indication of where it is quarried in the world, what the remaining supply levels are, and the difficulty in removing it and shipping it to far destinations.

Are there any requirements or regulations in regard to the marker I order?
Yes.  Many times there are regulations according to the cemetery.  Before producing any memorial we make certain that the selection adheres to cemetery regulations.

Can you duplicate another marker or monument already in place?
Yes.  We just need to know the location of the existing memorial you would like duplicated.

If I choose cremation, is it really necessary to invest in a monument or marker?
This is a very important point to consider. Cremation does not preclude one from having a permanent memorial site. The practice of scattering or keeping ashes stored in a residence can be problematic.  For the sake of honor and dignity, a reliable source of record, and for safekeeping of a loved one’s ashes from generation to generation, we do recommend a permanent place marked with a suitable memorial. There are individual and family memorials referred to as Columbariums specifically designed as an alternative to scattering or ground burial.
